What is this new LMS?

LMS is an acronym for Learning Management System. The new LMS being introduced to the membership will provide an online link from which a student may gain access, anytime, to their individually assigned and password protected Student Page. For the Training Administrator it provides the ability to assign courses individually to meet specific needs, or as a group of courses representing a particular career track or certification process.

Reporting
Training records and the proper maintenance thereof have been a challenge from the beginning. In utilizing the new LMS, all information will be stored within a database. An administrator will have access to information such as enrollments in a particular course and even the student’s progress within the course. Grades will also be available in many different formats and standards. Bottom line, any information placed into the database is immediately accessible via the reporting function. The days of multiple filing cabinets crammed full of transcripts and boxes in storage rooms are no longer a reality. All information will be maintained, secured and administered from within the LMS.

Capabilities
Remember, as we have said from day one the intention is not to replace the classroom training experience, but to enhance the training opportunities provided to the membership. The new LMS will provide the ability for TVPPA to manage registration and facilitation of classroom as well as online training consolidating transcripts and increasing efficiency.

Why would I want to utilize online training?
Why would you not take advantage of this opportunity is the better question. With the new LMS you will now have the opportunity to complete the Lineman Apprentice program online. The new online offering is enhanced in that there is immediate grading and results to all testing within the Units. This allows the student to continue their progression without the wait of the grading process. Additionally, there will be more than 2,000 course titles available for online consumption with the click of a button. The online course offerings cover topics such as Utility Safety, IT, HR, Leadership/Management, Team Building, Microsoft applications, and more. A student has complete access to their specific training 24/7 online, and all that is required is the proper internet connection.
