Randell Meyers, general manager at Powell Valley EC, New Tazewell, TN, since 1992, has announced his intention to retire after a 54-year run at that cooperative.

Meyers will be succeeded on an interim basis by Mike Knotts, vice president for Government Affairs at the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association. Knotts is set to take over Powell Valley EC’s daily operations on Sept. 1, at which time he will also lead the cooperative’s search for a new permanent manager.

Meyers hired on at Powell Valley EC as a laborer in 1964. On his watch as general manager, the cooperative built a 20-megawatt backup-generation facility, deployed new technology that improved the speed of outage restoration and moved from a crowded, 20,000-square-foot office complex to a renovated, 95,000-square-foot facility.

“The board is grateful to Randell for his service and commitment to the cooperative,” said Roger Ball, president of the Powell Valley EC Board of Directors. “He has provided wise counsel and sound leadership for the cooperative for more than 54 years. We wish Randell nothing but the best in his retirement.”
