TECHNICAL SERVICES AIDE LEVEL 151 - The City of Springfield, TN, Department of Electricity seeks a Technical Services Aide Level 151.

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: Employee will assist Technical Services Supervisor in the construction and maintenance of electrical-metering system and related functions. Employee is responsible for skilled and technical work related to standard technical functions of electric utility including metering and meter testing, power quality, substation maintenance, facility maintenance, inventory maintenance, and occasional bucket work near energized lines. Work is performed under general supervision of the Technical Services Supervisor. The employee is frequently required to use independent judgment in order to complete tasks. Performs related work as required.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION: The employee will operate a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, personal computer, various application software, meter-test board, voltage and amperage testers, power tools, and various hand tools. The employee will operate an automobile, truck, and/or bucket truck with radio transmitting and receiving capabilities. The employee will work indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of being exposed to adverse weather conditions and hazardous or moderately dangerous situations. The employee may be required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, climb, lift and carry heavy objects. Work may expose the employee to loud and noisy places, elevated places, dangerous machinery and sharp tools. The employee may be exposed to fumes, chemicals and other toxic substances. The employee may be subject to “on call” duty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: 1. Test and calibrate electric meters using automated test board and laptop with meter-data management application software. 2. Calibrate, assemble and install meter bases, meters, potential transformers, current transformers, cabinets, etc.; install CT meters and commercial meters. 3. Maintain records on meter tests and installations. 4. Assist in testing substation batteries. 5. Install residential surge protectors at customer’s meter. 6. Change out meters and complete meter change forms. 7. Install power quality equipment when needed. 8. Read electronic industrial meters and prepare monthly readings for billing office. 9. Assist with surveillance system repair and maintenance. 10. Assist with all facility maintenance. 11. Assist with unloading materials upon arrival and stock in appropriate bins. 12. Assist in keeping warehouse clean and organized. 13. Assist with physical inventory maintenance.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (any one position may not include all of the listed duties which may be performed) 1. Answer customer questions concerning billing and metering related problems. 2. Assist with load studies; monitor customer loads monthly for engineering. 3. Check substations daily and maintain log of operations. 4. Clean substation control houses. 5. Respond to power-outage calls and other types of electrical problems, often under adverse weather conditions. 6. Assist Marketing Dept. in Home Weatherization Program. 7. Assist in new-home inspections. 8. Monitor and maintain capacitor controls; switch on and off as needed. 9. Perform related tasks as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Thorough knowledge of the design, principles and specific mechanisms of various types of electric meters. 2. Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, repair and testing of electric meters. 3. General knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the erection and maintenance of power lines and general construction. 4. Ability to diagnose defect in electric metering equipment and to determine proper corrective measures. 5. Thorough knowledge of personal computers 6. Familiarity with industry standard metering application software. 7. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the work and safety precautions to be taken. 8. Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Electric Department. 9. Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and the American Public Power Association’s Safety Manual. 10. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions 11. Ability to operate and maintain the necessary electrical and vehicular equipment. 12. Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather conditions. 13. Strength to perform manual work and physical stamina to withstand working under adverse conditions. 14. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with city employees and the general public.

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a standard high school; technical-school training and/or certificate/degree preferred; considerable experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electric meters; considerable computer experience; considerable experience in the maintenance and repair of solid state electronic equipment; experience working in a bucket truck; experience in general construction and maintenance or any equivalent combination of experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess a valid class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state of Tennessee. Will be required to pass a physical examination and drug screen given by a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Tennessee and designated by the City of Springfield.

Applicants should be knowledgeable and experienced in all phases of constructing, operating and maintaining both underground and overhead high-voltage distribution systems. Ability to operate bucket trucks, trenchers, and other equipment used in electrical distribution is a must. COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR - Decatur, AL, Utilities seeks a Communications/Public Relations Coordinator.

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, leads the development and execution of communications strategies both internally and externally. Responsibilities focus on customer and employee communications, media and public relations. Plans, directs and conducts programs/activities to create goodwill, and enhance DU’s image within the community. Position exercises independent judgment and initiative in all phases of work in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties personally or through supporting employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Responsible for reviewing/proofing all written and oral communications.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel) as required to perform job tasks. This includes using software applications for e-mail, word processing, database tracking and spreadsheet applications and using Internet Explorer to navigate online Employee Self Serve webpage for personal payroll, benefit and employee information. Ability to use word processing and various graphics and spreadsheet software.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as financial and operational cost justifications. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical business situations.

REASONING/COMPLEXITY: Ability to use substantial judgment and analytic ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form to perform somewhat complex calculations, solve moderate problems and organize information for reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: No significant physical demands; has discretion about walking, sitting and standing.
