ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST - CDE Lightband / Clarksville Dept. of Electricity CLASS SUMMARY: This is the first of four levels in the Electrical Engineering series. Incumbents respond to after-hours issues/emergencies requiring the ability to address a wide variety of issues/emergencies independently, utilize SCADA, GIS, IVR, OMS, customer accounting, and similar systems; works with Project Engineers to complete and accomplish tasks.

TYPICAL CLASS-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: *Prepares, updates, and reviews diagrams of underground and overhead electrical lines and fiber-optic lines; maintains and locates necessary information for new projects while coordinating with customers, contractors and operational teams. *Responds to outages/emergencies during regular hours and after hours; assists in directing personnel during major outages and emergency situations. *Utilizes applicable equipment and software, which may include SCADA, GIS, IVR, OMS, and related systems. *Reviews incoming projects to determine their impact on the electrical system; coordinates activities with customers; initiates work orders to begin construction; stakes jobs for construction. Coordinates work with contractors and operations personnel, as necessary. *Prepares switching procedures for review and approval; assists in short/long-range planning, coordinates with consulting engineers; assists in developing construction standards and specifications. *Prepares a variety of engineering and operational records and reports. *Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited engineering program with PE certification in the State of TN (or ability to obtain PE) highly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Licensing Requirements: • Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) expected within 1 year of hire • Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of TN, to be obtained within reasonable time of hire, according to CDE management. Knowledge of: •Electrical engineering principles, practices and techniques •Electrical construction principles, practices and techniques •SCADA systems and hardware •Occupational hazards associated with electrical transmission and distribution •Customer-service principles; •Recordkeeping principles •Computers and related software applications. Skill in: •Using specialized electrical engineering tools and equipment •Creating electrical and fiber optic maps •Installing and maintaining SCADA hardware •Coordinating operational activities •Preparing and processing work orders •Providing customer service •Maintaining project files and records •Using a computer and related software applications •Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. •Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. •Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, dusts, poor ventilation, intense noises and environmental disturbances. ENERGY ADVISOR - Murfreesboro Electric Department (MED) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Energy Advisor to encourage efficient use of electricity through the promotion of MED’s programs and services as well as complete all paperwork associated with these programs. Conduct residential energy audits to identify energy-efficiency-improvement opportunities and produce report for MED customers in conjunction with TVA’s eScore Program. Inspect heat pump installations for compliance with the TVA’s Energy Right Solutions Program. Perform new home, manufactured home, and water-heater inspections for compliance with TVA’s Energy Right Solutions Program. Perform energy-efficiency ratings for new homes and handle all the required paperwork. Successful applicants should have strong communication skills to work with builders, HVAC dealers, homeowners, and other MED customers. Employee needs to be able to solve conflict in a positive manner. Employee is under the supervision of the Director of Marketing.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Building Science, Construction Management or related field is preferred. Certification as a Professional Energy Manager is desired. Minimum of four (4) years experience in residential construction, energy conservation, energy auditing, HVAC systems, building diagnostics, air-infiltration reduction, and sidewall and attic insulation is desired. Lineworker position is subject to adverse weather conditions and hazards associated with working at heights, in precarious positions, with electrical equipment and wires.
