SENIOR SYSTEM ARBORIST - Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative, South Pittsburg, TN, is accepting applications for the position of Senior System Arborist. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. CT, Monday, Sept. 22.

ELECTRIC SUPERINTENDENT - The City of Madisonville, KY, seeks an Electric Superintendent.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION - Basic requirements of this position include:

• Bachelor’s degree and 12-15 years of increasingly responsible experience in the electric-utility industry, including five years of municipality experience; 10 years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job duties.

• Past experience should include power-system planning, engineering and design, transformer banking, system-load analysis, budget preparation and project management; extensive knowledge of SCADA technology.

• Experience with overhead and underground distribution systems and related planning software.

• Thorough knowledge of and experience in design and repair or rehab of electric substation, distribution, and relay-control systems

• Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

• Experience in electric rate schedules and rate setting/forecasting

• Proficient computer skills including MS-Excel & Word

• A commitment to teamwork within a municipal environment; proactive orientation that will keep city well-positioned in a dynamic industry environment.

PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Experience with negotiating, contracting and the administration of power-supply-related contracts.

(8/25/2014) TRANSMISSION PLANNING ENGINEER- Position Summary: Develops and conducts computer modeling studies for short-term planning of bulk transmission and interconnected systems; coordinates outage scheduling; and provides technical support to Control Center personnel. Duties: *Collects modeling data from area utilities and coordinates into a combined system model appropriate for operations, transmission and generation planning studies. *Provides/updates modeling data for the SMEPA transmission system as required by neighboring utilities and the Reliability Coordinator. *Provides load flow data and models as required to maintain accurate models of the SMEPA off-system loads in the NERC Interchange Distribution Calculator (IDC). * Maintains and generates data for the load flow programs; includes calculations of transmission line impedances from given physical characteristics and calculation of appropriate models for transformers using available test report data. *Coordinates preparation of load forecasts and power requirement studies. * Develops short-term operational studies in coordination with neighboring utilities to evaluate interconnection operations, transfers, and contingencies. *Develops system studies in support of System Operations and provides support to Control Center personnel, as needed. *Recommends, develops, implements and documents automated computer programs, and other advanced analysis methods, to allow for comprehensive monitoring of operational performance of the transmission system and detection of transmission system problems. * Prepares government-required reports and industry surveys related to system operations and planning. *Participates as required in various MISO, NERC, and SERC activities. *Generates and maintains data as required for other engineering-related studies. *Remains familiar with interconnection/interchange agreements and contracts between Association and other utilities, and knowledgeable of the influence of the agreements upon system operations and planning. *Develop operating procedures to relieve identified planning criteria and operating limit violations. *Performs other duties as assigned. Ensures that substation project designs comply with applicable Rural Utilities Service (RUS), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) requirements. Essential Job Functions * Prepares cost estimates and schedules for substation capital improvement projects. *Evaluates alternative designs and construction materials and equipment used for projects. A minimum of five years of progressive senior electric-utility management experience with strong team-building skills is preferred. Electric-cooperative experience is a plus and an understanding of cooperative principles is desired. Candidates must have experience with and a high level of understanding of all the core business functions of an electric-distribution system: strategic planning, board relations, governance, finance, engineering, technology, operations, power supply, marketing, member services, safety and grassroots initiatives. The successful candidate must have an understanding of the political/legislative, regulatory and environmental issues impacting the electric-utility industry. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is desired.
