Dozens of linemen in crews from around the Valley rolled out in early September to help in parts of the country devastated by Hurricane Irma.

Crews from Bowling Green, KY, MU; Cleveland, TN, Utilities; Greeneville, TN, L & PS and Memphis, TN, LG & W had gone to Gainesville, FL. Crews from rom Athens, TN, UB and Tullahoma, TN, UA decamped to Wauchula, FL, while Crews from Huntsville, AL, Utilities; Murfreesboro, TN, ED and Sevier Co., TN, ES headed for Orlando, FL.

Several crews stayed closer to home; Chattanooga, TN, EPB crews got helping hands from others representing Albertville, AL, MUB; Cleveland Utilities; LaFollette, TN, UB; Nashville, TN, ES; Shelbyville, TN, ES and Knoxville, TN, UB.

TVPPA Vice President Danette Scudder, who worked with her APPA Mutual Aid Working Group colleagues to help coordinate municipal crews, noted that it was “probable” that crews from other utilities not coordinated by TVPPA responded elsewhere.

Scudder added that statewide associations, in conjunction with NRECA, continue to manage response efforts for TVPPA-member cooperatives. Two of those TVPPA-member cooperatives, Middle Tennessee EMC, Murfreesboro, TN, and Pennyrile RECC, Hopkinsville, KY, sent crews to Chattanooga and Vienna, GA, respectively.
