Chattanooga, TN, native Scott Spence has been named by the board of directors at Arab EC, Arab, AL, to succeed Joe Van Bunch as general manager.

With his January 2018 retirement, Van Bunch closes the book on an Arab EC career that spans 40 years, including the past 33 as its chief executive. He signed on at Arab EC as a bookkeeper, then was promoted to office manager before succeeding Gene Craft as general manager in 1985.

Spence holds degrees from the University of Tennessee and the University of Georgia and recently completed an executive-education program at Louisiana State University. In taking the reins at Arab EC, he returns to public power after a four-year run at Cooperative Energy in Hattiesburg, MS.
