Work Description: KUB is looking for an experienced substation design engineer with advanced knowledge of protection and control systems. Duties include being able to perform advanced calculations for short-circuit analysis, protection/coordination studies, arc-flash studies, load-flow analysis using modeling software, harmonic studies and power-quality issues. Develop and maintain protective relay setting files using both digital and electromechanical style relays. Assist with long-range capital improvement project planning and budgeting. Research and advance new technologies such as distribution automation to enhance the electric-system performance and provide technical engineering support for Fault Location Isolation/Service Restoration (FLISR) projects. When called upon, provide technical protection and control engineering support to field testing and relay commissioning crews. Receive training to perform storm response duties with other department members.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university
• Advanced analytical and project management skills
• Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and team skills
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects in a timely manner
• Ability to use Microsoft office products
• Have and maintain a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Engineer license in State of Tennessee or ability to obtain Professional Engineer license in the State of Tennessee through comity.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with an electric utility
• Demonstrates strong business planning skills.
• Experience setting and programming Siemens digital relays using DIGSI software
• Experience using CYME electric system modeling software and CYME TCC
• Experience with Microstation, ArcGIS, Access, Excel and has extensive programming expertise

Physical Demands: Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time in normal office conditions, but does involve walking or standing outside periodically for inspections, customer calls, etc. Work primarily in an office setting but includes routine field work and storm response duties that requires driving a company vehicle and walking on uneven terrain.
