Equipment, Configuration, Switching & Troubleshooting

This five-day workshop begins with the layout of an electric utility system, then covers major system equipment and the operational levels of a modern electric utility. It also introduces substation drawings, switching, safety procedures, and troubleshooting. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: • Describe the major customer classes served by an electric utility and explain their relative use of electrical energy. • Identify TVA’s generation mix and explain how generation resources and energy sources have changed over time. • Discuss the major operational levels of an electric power system, including generation, transmission, sub-transmission, distribution, control, and protection. • Recognize common pole types, conductor types, and construction considerations used in overhead and underground utility systems.
