Superintendent of Electric Operations

Purpose of Position

This position directs the construction, maintenance and operation of overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines while ensuring that specifications are met.  Directs all electric construction activities so that customers receive reliable and efficient service while ensuring a safe environment for employees, customers and the general public.  Maintains general oversight of the right-of-way clearing program and oversees warehouse.

Job Specifications

Education:

Journeyman Lineman with ten years work experience is required.  Must be able to interpret technical manuals and provide and direct technical training for reporting personnel.  Must be able to read and interpret instructions and complete the necessary paperwork used in the completion of duties.  High school or GED equivalent preferred. 

Experience:

A minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible experience as an electrical utility worker, preferable in operations or engineering.   Experience should include all phases of construction and maintenance. 

Job Knowledge:

Must possess or be willing to obtain a knowledge of LUB Materials Specifications Construction Standards, National Electrical Safety Code and OSHA Regulations.  Must possess or be willing to obtain an understanding of LUB policies and procedures, terms and conditions of service, rates and other rules, regulations and approved practices.  Must have or be willing to obtain knowledge of LUB’s specifications and requirements for Right-of-Way clearing. 

Abilities and Skills:

Should be skilled in organizing, planning, directing, coordinating and controlling an operations department.  Must be able to communicate orally and in writing.  Must have a thorough knowledge of LUB tree trimming policies and procedures, as well as right-of-way regulations and procedures.  Must be skilled in motivating, training and evaluating subordinates in order to obtain the highest degree of productivity and development of individual capabilities.  A valid Tennessee drivers license is required.

Working Conditions

Normal office conditions with considerable fieldwork.  Some irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays may be required.

After an offer of employment, a physical is required.

This position has been designated safety sensitive and subject to pre-employment, periodic, reasonable cause, post-accident and random drug testing.

This position has been designated hourly, non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
