Register for TVPPA's November Class on Legal Risks in Vegetation Management
Vegetation management is essential to safe, reliable utility operations. However, the work can also raise complicated questions about contracts, easements, contractors, environmental requirements, liability, and more.
Contracts, Risk & Legal Issues in Vegetation Management, offered Nov. 16 at TVPPA in Chattanooga, will help participants better understand those issues and recognize potential problems before they become costly ones.
Instructors Tim Culpepper and Larry Cash will take a practical look at the contracts, legal requirements, regulatory considerations, and risk-management issues associated with utility vegetation management. Using real-world examples, including past and pending litigation, they will illustrate how contractual and legal issues can arise and what utilities should consider when managing those risks.
Participants will explore the essential elements of effective vegetation management contracts and specifications, including scope of work, performance expectations, insurance and indemnification, payment terms, subcontracting, and contract modifications. The course will also address utility authority and easement rights, permitting and environmental requirements, herbicide use, wildfire, applicable state and federal laws, and legal considerations involving contractors and subcontractors.
For utility professionals involved in planning, contracting, overseeing, or managing vegetation work, the course offers practical insight into an increasingly complex area of utility operations — and tools for identifying risk before it becomes a larger problem.
