Waste Generation, Management, and Disposal

This course provides an overview of the regulatory framework and best practices for managing waste streams generated by electric distribution activities. Participants will learn how to properly classify, label, store, and transport wastes—including hazardous, non-hazardous, universal, and electronic materials—in compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. This course also highlights recycling and sustainability initiatives within electric distribution systems. Participants learn proper recycling procedures for metals, wires, wood poles, and equipment, as well as recovery and handling of SF₆ from breakers and switchgear.
