Safety Trainer & Coordinator
Job Summary
The Safety and Technical Trainer will provide cross-functional support in the Safety department. The main areas of responsibility may include any number of tasks such as the assessment of operations of EPB for safety, health, risk control, and regulatory compliance; evaluating training needs, training development, and conducting training for all job classifications; and providing appropriate direction to employees to ensure they are qualified to perform the functions of their position to prevent accidents, are aware of the environmental impact of their tasks, and reduce risk.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and schedule safety and technical training for employees to meet corporate and compliance requirements. Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of the training in compliance with 29 CFR.
- Assist in implementing, developing, and updating employee safety and technical training. Make recommendations on potential training vendors.
- Develop and present training programs with lesson plans on OSHA regulatory topics.
- Prepare, schedule, and conduct New Hire Safety Orientation Training Programs. Develop and present various training programs to employees transferring to new positions.
- Research, develop, schedule, and present the Non-Operating Safety Meetings.
- Develop and present Electrical Safety Training Programs for Fire and Police Departments, Contractors, and the Community as needed.
- Assist with coordination, scheduling, tracking, administration, and delivery of the Apprenticeship Training Programs. Act as a primary technical trainer for the Apprentice Program.
- Participate in apprentice committee meetings to assess development and train apprentices as necessary based on their step progression.
- Develop and distribute testing and training materials relative to job classifications.
- Develop, schedule, and perform a regular field crew audit program; track observations as part of performance criteria and provide necessary recommendations for training or action.
- Create a training requirements matrix (initial-monthly) to indicate specific training elements required to be qualified with job class and for each individual within each job class
- Performs administrative duties to track training completion, schedule classes and resources, compile and prepare statistical information on training program status.
- Develop and maintain a database of all rubber goods, testing, and distribution. Coordinate with outside vendors regarding rubber goods supply, testing, and distribution.
- Maintain the database and act as the primary contact for the vendor(s) supplying Fire Resistant and other safety clothing and equipment.
- Draft operating procedures and requirements in cooperation with internal managers.
- Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment.
- Maintain oversight of all training equipment.
- Communicate with employees, customers, and other entities to provide information or to answer questions.
- Manage fire extinguisher inventory, including testing and certifications, following governmental regulations. -Work within the department on selecting safety equipment with the proper application.
- Perform departmental and crew visits/audits. Track and record observations and provide necessary recommendations to the departments.
- Consult with other supervisors, managers, and leadership to identify organizational needs.
- Advise the company’s administrative team on safety issues and compliance in specific projects and operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Four years of journeyman-level experience as a lineman, electrician, or cable splicer is required.
- Good PC skills with the ability to fully utilize application-specific software on a detailed level.
CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Possess or can obtain CPR/First Aid Instructor status.
- Familiar with OSHA regulations and requirements, and OSHA certifications.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; the ability to use tact and judgment when interacting and corresponding with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and governmental agencies, and, as appropriate, hold such accountable for enforcement of all internal safety policies and external regulations.
- Ability to research topics, regulations, and articles related to Safety. Must possess exceptional training and presentation skills with engaging and interactive presentations. Must be at ease as they present training to employees, management, and the public on safety and utility-related issues.
