On Saturday, April 6, lineworkers from across the Tennessee Valley competed against some of the nation’s best lineworkers at the American Public Power Association’s Lineworkers Rodeo. Held in in Lafayette, La., this year’s competition saw sixty-four journeyman teams and 134 apprentices compete. They were judged based on safety, work practices, neatness, ability, equipment handling, and timely event completion.
Lineworkers from CDE Lightband; Florence Utilities; Huntsville Utilities; Jackson Energy Authority; Memphis Light, Gas and Water; and Nashville Electric Service represented the region, showcasing their talents and dedication to the field.
Winners were announced at a banquet on Saturday evening, and several Valley lineworkers brought home awards. Those awards are as follows:
Apprentice – Written Test
Second place: Evan Celusta – CDE Lightband, Clarksville, Tenn.
Journeyman – Overall
Fourth place: Cole Border, Colby Lipham, & Adam Thomas – Huntsville Utilities, Huntsville, Ala.
Journeyman – 12kV Single Phase Deadend Transfer
Third place: Jonathan Harris, Derek Pennington, & Michael Shannon – Nashville Electric Service, Nashville, Tenn.
Journeyman – 200 Amp Swollen Elbow Repair
First place: Andrew Brown, Matthew Hubbard, & Ronny Mullins – Huntsville Utilities, Huntsville, Ala.
Second place: Cole Border, Colby Lipham, & Adam Thomas – Huntsville Utilities, Huntsville, Ala.
