TVPPA’s Education & Training team has been hard at work and is ready to support you and your team with expanded opportunities to learn and develop your professional skills in the new year.

Beginning in January, we are bringing our Foreman Academy to the Middle Tennessee region with classes being offered at Lawrenceburg Utility Systems in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.

The three-track series provides line crew foremen with knowledge and skills outside the scope of fundamental linework. Subject areas include leadership, safety, technical and management skills with a focus on helping participants become more effective leaders and supervisors. They will also gain a better understanding of their role and responsibilities within the utility. Classes are designed for every experience level from the new line foreman to more seasoned veterans. Individuals attending the Academy will earn a certificate for each track completed and an overall completion certificate if all three tracks are completed.

Track 1 addresses attitude and responsibility, OSHA standards, labor law and the organizational impact of processing paperwork and runs January 23-26.

Revamped Power Line Design & Staking Course

Also coming in 2023, TVPPA members can expect a revamped Power Line Design & Staking (PLDS) program. Taught in conjunction with partner UTS, this program will consist of four courses rather than the previous six. Each level of the new four-course series will consist of three days of onsite instruction (this was previously two) followed by an online final exam administered the following week. By restructuring this program, TVPPA hopes member utilities will benefit from reduced travel expenses and fewer scheduling disruptions. This program will be offered at both CDE Lightband in Clarksville, Tenn., and at Knoxville Utilities Board in Knoxville, Tenn. in the coming year.

Dates for the PLDS courses are as follows:
