Position: Chief Engineer-Electric
Location: Foley, Ala.

Job Summary: 

This position is responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance, engineering compliance, administration, planning and general oversight of the Electric Department. This position requires public communication and participation in community related activities where the Vision and Mission of Riviera Utilities is supported. The position is responsible for regulatory compliance of all components of the system.

Essential Job Functions: 

• Establishes and communicates the vision and mission for the Department.
• Provides regular reports to Management regarding the Department.
• Provides oversight on the planning, organization, and management of the electric system, which includes creating long-range goals for the electrical system and planning for major capital improvements.
• Oversees the design and construction of projects in overhead and underground applications in transmission, distribution, and substations.
• Oversees the preparation of easements.
• Monitors workflow, reviews and evaluates work products, methods, policies, and procedures of employees within area of responsibility.
• Ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards and requirements.
• Manages contracts related to construction or engineering work.
• Advises, informs, guides, and directs the supervisors and employees of the Department regarding projects, technical questions, budgets, priorities and general management issues and practices.
• Reviews and approves evaluations, requests for leave, performance management and duties for staff.
• Ensures that department employees follow company policies. Trains, develops, guides, and evaluates employees.
• Plans for future requirements, major initiatives, and overall staffing needs.
• Reviews, develops, and presents budgets and projections for the Department.
• Provides guidance and oversight to ensure appropriate and adequate leadership development within the Department.
• Develops and implements measurable performance goals and objectives for staff and divisions within the department.
• Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, providing information within the scope of his/her knowledge.
• Participates in community meetings, interacts with, and makes presentations to the public including elected officials.
• Gathers information from customers and employees to improve services, operations, and procedures.
• Holds meetings and confers with staff, management and other departments concerning current work or future planned work.

Qualifications: 

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering field and ten (10) years of experience in increasing levels of responsibility and management in the electric utility industry, including four (4) years minimum experience in an engineering supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama is required within one (1) year of start date.

Special Requirements:
Position requires experience and training in leading and managing others. Ongoing training and education are required for positions requiring employee management.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver’s License within 60 days of employment.
