Position: Line Technician

Job Description

Seeking a Line Technician to join our team. Ideal candidates must have strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work under pressure, and be dependable.
This position constructs underground and overhead electrical lines and all other related tasks on energized lines of different voltages and de-energized lines. Performs various duties including meter reading, making service changes, troubleshooting service outages, disconnecting and connecting services, voltage testing, and locating underground conductors. Maintains both underground and overhead electrical system. Performs related duties to line construction which includes but is not limited to accounting for materials used, stocking trucks, loading and unloading materials, and inspecting distribution and transmission lines for necessary maintenance. Routes or re-routes power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures, regularly working above, on, or in close proximity to energized lines of different voltages. Selects and uses a variety of “hot line” tools and makes use of other protective devices as specified or necessary. Performs line switching or sectionalizing as directed. Performs emergency repairs, checks phasing, connects circuits under load, performs load checks, and balances feeders as required. Inspects lines, poles (below and above ground), and equipment for signs of damage or wear and reports deficiencies. May trim/fell trees in dangerous areas, and clear right-of-way in vicinity of power lines.

Ability to communicate verbally with members in a courteous manner. Climb poles up to 55 feet or more, lift and transport up to 75lbs. Performs work in weather conditions including cold below 32 degrees and heat above 100 degrees. Works standby as scheduled. Works overtime and accepts call-outs after regular working hours (e.g. evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.). and in all weather conditions including emergencies.

Successful candidate must live within a 30-mile radius to JPEC, maintain good attendance/punctuality record, travel, and participate in designated training programs when necessary.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, required.
  • Completed a JPEC recognized apprenticeship program, required.
  • Must have a valid Class-A commercial driver’s license.
